RN's friendship with planting partner KTHK in Sumatra begins with an investment in creating a stable and prosperous future for their village 'Harapan Maju' (meaning 'Future Hope' after all).
This project is creating direct incomes for 50+ staff employed so far!
We've started by building a workers barracks complete with 6 beds for staff from both organisations to share onsite, along with augers, manual tools, maintenance gear, work wear/boots, and a scout bike.
For the foreseeable future we will be living and working together to create a sustainable local economy from forest products such as fruits and medicines- while planting 50% rainforest trees in the mix.
This is the first time foreigners have visited the village, so we will be doing significant training and development in techniques, as well as assist the villagers in developing methods to ship, sell and process their forest products.
